Simon Baynes MP, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, recently visited and showed his support for the Community Open Day at the Canolfan Ceiriog in the Ceiriog Valley.
Mr Baynes visited the event on Saturday 23rd October 2021, which was a celebration of the community and was an opportunity for people to come together, which hasn’t been possible for many months due to COVID-19.
At the event there was entertainment, funded by a Community Inclusion Grant from Wrexham Council. Children were able to receive balloons, get involved with shaping pumpkins and also were able to ride on a hired pump track, funded by money from Wrexham County Borough, North Wales Police and Glyn Ceiriog Community Council.
During the Community Open Day, Mr Baynes met with many local people and alongside County Cllr Trevor Bates and Phil Lloyd, the Chair of Glyn Ceiriog Community Council, presented trophies to the winners of the Glyn Ceiriog Community Council Garden Competition – Bev Buckley, Roy Evans, Eric Jones and Denise Hughes.
County Cllr Trevor Bates said:
“I was pleased that so many families turned out to enjoy the entertainment on offer. I would like to thank all the volunteers who helped to stage the event. Their commitment demonstrates why the Ceiriog Valley is a special place to live. COVID has had a devastating effect on the many community groups and return to normal is a slow process. We cannot underestimate the effect on mental health either. So it is pleasing to see our MP, Simon Baynes, taking the time to come and meet our residents and hear their concerns first-hand”
Simon Baynes MP said:
“The Ceiriog Valley Community Open Day was an excellent opportunity for everyone to come together, something that we were all deprived of for many months due to the COVID restrictions. It was a pleasure to attend and I would like to thank everyone involved in this event as a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to put together events such as this. It was great to see the Ceiriog Valley community continuing to come together and enjoying such a special day.”
