On Friday 18th December, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, joined Helping Hands volunteers in a socially-distanced meeting at the Oliver Jones Memorial Hall in Dolywern to congratulate them on the 48 Christmas hampers that they had prepared for vulnerable residents living locally.
Glyntraian Helping Hands is a local voluntary group, supported by Glyntraian Community Council, which offers support for residents who are experiencing hardship.
The group was set up in 2018, initially to provide Christmas food hampers for vulnerable residents, but has expanded its activities to provide year-round support.
Glyntraian Community Councillor, Merle Hunt, who has played a central in organising Helping Hands, said:
“Over this weekend Helping Hands volunteers have packed and delivered 48 Christmas hampers for those who have had a tough time recently to show that there are people in their community who care about them.
“Helping Hands would like to express its special thanks to Glyntraian Community Council, Glyntraian Community Agent, Davena Davies, County Cllr Trevor Bates, local residents, local businesses, additional local volunteers and donors for their support.”
Simon Baynes MP said:
“It was an absolute pleasure to join the Helping Hands volunteers on Friday in a socially-distanced meeting. I congratulated them all on their incredible achievement – which is particularly heart-warming so close to Christmas when isolated residents need plenty of support. The Ceiriog Valley volunteers are a fine example of community spirit in action.”
