On Friday 30th July 2021, Welsh Conservative Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, visited Glyn Wylfa in Chirk and congratulated the team on being recognised as one of the Top 100 Social Enterprises in the NatWest SE100 Index 2021.
Glyn Wylfa was established as a social enterprise by a committed team of Chirk residents and volunteers as a community hub with the slogan: ‘For the Benefit of the Local Community.’ It is also home to Caffi Wylfa, a café which sources from local suppliers wherever possible. Glyn Wylfa has managed to expand every year since 2013 and the team have invested heavily into Caffi Wylfa, which, like many businesses has had to adapt to new ways of working, with takeaways and deliveries, and even hiring a van during the Welsh Government Covid lockdown.
During the visit, Mr Baynes met with the Chairman, Mick Ramsay, and the Director, Brian Colley and praised the whole team for their commitment to the local community. He was also able to learn more about the role that Glyn Wylfa plays in ensuring that the local community in Chirk is able to benefit as much as possible from their success.
Brian Colley said:
“It was a great pleasure to welcome, once again, Simon Baynes MP, to Glyn Wylfa to show him the continued growth of the Social Enterprise and the facilities at Caffi Wylfa and for our business tenants in Glyn Wylfa. Simon has provided much encouragement to the business and we thank him for his support in achieving our objectives.”
Simon Baynes MP said:
“It was wonderful to visit Glyn Wylfa again and to offer my congratulations to the amazing team there for being recognised as one of the Top Social Enterprises in the UK. During my visit, I was able to see for myself the hard work and dedication they put in to ensuring that Glyn Wylfa is able to meet its objective of benefitting the local community in Chirk. It was also a pleasure to visit Caffi Wylfa next door and to meet members of staff including the Manager, Chris Davies, and Barista, Natasha Rowland, who showed me the café’s new San Remo F18 3 Group Espresso Bar. As we make our way out of Covid, hopefully for good, I would like to wish the team all the best for the future and thank them for their tireless work in ensuring the local area is able to benefit from this exemplary social enterprise.”
