On Tuesday, 4th July, Simon Baynes, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, attended a Local NHS Champions Reception at 10 Downing Street, with Dr Kieran Redman of Hanmer Doctors Surgery. The event, hosted by Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, celebrated the work of NHS workers and care givers across Wales and the rest of the UK.
The Hanmer Doctors Surgery is run solely by Dr Redman and his small team of dedicated staff. Whilst the surgery needs modernisation and refurbishment, its operation and running during and since the pandemic has been remarkable. Earlier this year Dr Redman and the Surgery won the GP Achievement Award 2023 based upon their winter respiratory vaccine datasets as judged by a panel of experts and Dr Redman continues to see an increase in patient numbers from both sides of the Welsh border.
Dr Redman’s hard work has been strongly supported by that of the Hanmer Surgery Patient Action Group. The Group has worked closely with Dr Redman for ten years to campaign for the replacement of the old surgery building by a new health centre that will better serve the area covered by Hanmer Doctors Surgery.
At the Reception Dr Redman was able to discuss the campaign with Mr Baynes and had the opportunity to meet the Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, and talk to him about the campaign and running of the surgery. The Reception highlighted the intrinsic role of devoted individuals in our NHS and how their commitment and resolve can make a big difference to the lives of patients.
