Welsh Conservative Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, recently joined Chirk Town Councillor, Gareth Baines, on a visit to Chirk Recreation Ground where, following a grant application by Cllr Baines, outdoor gym equipment has been installed by Chirk Town Council and is already proving very popular.
During the visit, Mr Baynes learnt more about the bidding process to secure funding for this project from North Wales Police through the Proceeds of Crime Act, ensuring that money seized from criminal activity is put to good use in communities.
Cllr Gareth Baines said:
“I was very pleased to see the huge support shown by the community in voting for my project, securing funding from North Wales Police to ensure residents of all ages have access to equipment to enable them to lead a healthy lifestyle for free - whether gyms are closed or open. The outdoor gym equipment follows the installation of play equipment for disabled children, and further enhances what Chirk has to offer.”
Following the visit, Mr Baynes said:
“I really enjoyed getting to see the new gym equipment installed at the recreation ground – and to try some of it out myself. I would also like to thank Cllr Gareth Baines for his role in securing the funding from North Wales Police. This is an additional improvement to Chirk Recreation Ground which makes our area even better for families and young people to enjoy.”
