On Friday 4th June, Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, made a socially distanced visit to see and endorse some new, anti-litter signage erected in Overton-on-Dee.
The signs have been commissioned by Overton-on-Dee Community Council to encourage visitors and residents alike to be mindful when disposing of litter. During the visit, Mr Baynes met with members of the Community Council, Cllr Charlotte Copeman and Cllr Leigh Kellaway, to congratulate them on their initiative.
Cllr Leigh Kellaway, of Overton-on-Dee Community Council, said:
“Littering is increasingly becoming an issue, not just here in Overton but in many other villages in the area. These signs mark the start of a bigger anti-litter social media campaign aiming to underscore to everyone who throws litter out of their cars the effect that has on the community. Do they ever consider, for example, who will pick it up? So if you see our posts, please like, share and comment to get the message to as many people as possible.”
Commenting on the signs, Mr Baynes, said:
“I’m delighted to have visited and seen the great work of the Community Council in putting these signs up around Overton. It’s so important that people dispose of their litter in the correct places, such as a bin, or otherwise, take it home with them.
“As the environment becomes more of a front-and-centre issue, it’s even more vital that everyone does their bit to reduce waste and litter. And every little helps in our mission to protect and conserve our local environment. So I happily endorse the message the Community Council is reinforcing.
“I would encourage everyone in Clwyd South to be actively involved in the ‘War on Litter.’ And I hope very much that it will make us an ever better area to live in.”
