On Friday 30th July, Welsh Conservative Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes MP, visited Cefn Druids Football Club in Rhosymedre to congratulate them on winning the Wales Futsal Championship. As a result, the Club’s Futsal team have qualified to play in the UEFA Champions League this season representing Wales, and are due to fly to North Macedonia this month for the first games. The squad, which includes 20 players, are very much looking forward to participating in this international event.
Futsal is an association football game played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors.
Stephen Shakeshaft said:
“We are delighted to represent Wales in the inaugural EUFA Futsal Champions League – a great achievement for a small Club like ourselves. Simon has always been a great help to us and we are grateful for his support.”
Commenting on the visit, Mr Baynes said:
“I very much enjoyed visiting Cefn Druids Football Club again and hearing how successful their Fustal team have been recently. It’s a wonderful achievement for a local club in Clwyd South to win the Wales Futsal Championship and to represent Wales in the UEFA Champions League. I wish them every success in the games this month. And I look forward to seeing the club continue to grow and expand in the months and years ahead.”
