Member of Parliament for Clwyd South, Simon Baynes, joined County Cllr Trevor Bates and volunteers on Friday 3 July, helping to serve up and deliver lunches provided as part of a local community project to support vulnerable residents. The project started in May and has to date delivered 800 meals to people locally.
Community volunteers cooked and delivered over 125 cottage pies – as they do each week – with funding mainly from Wrexham Council and AVOW. This week, volunteers Ted and Ann Johnston, who run the kitchen in the Oliver Jones Memorial Hall in Dolywern, and the ‘small army’ of Ceiriog Valley volunteers who serve up and deliver the meals, were joined by Clwyd South MP Simon Baynes in the kitchen and on their rounds.
Simon Baynes MP said:
“The whole community have shown incredible generosity during this pandemic, and it was my pleasure to help them on Friday. Cllr Trevor Bates and Community Agent Davena Davies led the team and all the volunteers, which included Ioan Davies doing his Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, have done such a terrific job – their hard work really deserves to be recognised. The whole group is a credit to the Ceiriog Valley and the wider Clwyd South community.”
